Promises

Promises

When God makes a promise, He keeps it. Period. If I’m being honest, sometimes I have found God’s promises hard to believe some days. Okay, to be totally honest sometimes I haven’t believed that God was going to do everything He said was going to do. But, it is usually because I am looking and focusing on myself or on my circumstances. When God says, “I will never leave you or forsake you” I look at a mistake I’ve made or a fault in myself and say “Really, even now? I sure feel like You’ve left me, why would You be faithful to me when I feel like such a screw up?”

But the cool thing about God’s promises is that they are true whether I feel that they are or not. God follows through with His promises even if the circumstances don’t look promising. In Psalm 105 it talks about a covenant God made with His people to give them the land of Canaan as their inheritance. A covenant basically means an agreement, which in my mind implies that God is promising to do something. But I love verse 12 where it says, “when they were few in number, indeed very few, and strangers in it.” So even when the circumstances didn’t look promising, God was still going to fulfill His agreement. I just thought it was a neat verse and a reminder to me that God keeps His promises even when it looks like there’s no way it can happen. It took the Israelites a journey, but they did inherit the land, just like God said.

P.S. I just realized there is a typo in my painting, it is supposed to say “strangers” not “stranger” oops!
